Meet Jeffrey Pledger – the barber from Vacaville CA and a member of the Booksy family. Read as Jeffrey talks about his career.
I got into barbering about 8 years ago. I was selling cars at the time and getting a bald fade weekly (first impression is everything). One day my co-worker said “Why don’t you just do it yourself?” I had no idea how to cut hair but I decided to give it a try. The first fifteen (or so) attempts failed miserably. Then I started practising on my roommate and my buddies and that’s how it started. And now, here I am, in a shop as a licensed barber.
The thing I like the most about barbering is that it isn’t the normal 9-5 grind. In fact, it’s not really a job to me as I love what I do. I meet new people daily, or get to cut long time clients that are more like my family now. I make my own schedule and truly control my income.
I like clients that know what they want, but then sometimes like when they say “I trust what you can do!”
More textured styled looks with longer lengths of hair. The classics will never die though; side parts, slick backs, flat tops.
The barber who has influenced me the most was the man that also got me into Booksy, Donald “DC” Conley. He has mentored me with barbering almost since day one when he was still cutting in Vacaville CA. I would just go to his shop and hang out; asking questions and paying attention to what he was using and doing step by step. My wife, Rachelle, has also influenced me. She pushes me every day to get better at what I do. Without these two individuals I don’t feel I’d be where I’m at today.
My key to success is customer service! I had a very successful career in retail management for almost 14 years and bringing that over to barbering has been huge! Making sure that the client comes first in all aspects of the service. If you don’t have customer service skills, I don’t think you will be in the field for long.
Booksy had impacted my career in ways I couldn’t have imagined. I no longer have to be on my phone replying to clients via text, calls, emails while at the shop, or while having time with my family. I make more money as I’m not late to reply when a client that needs to get in hits me up and I’m busy with another client. I’m all for walk in’s but knowing what I have for the day is very stress free! Clients cancel or re-schedule but for the months that I’ve been on Booksy I only had 2 no-shows.
"Yes!!! It is wonderful”, said Tyler Brazelton (he’s sitting right next to me as I was typing this)
Hands down!!! Any barber who wants to make more money and have more time with clients or for himself, get on BOOKSY!!!<
