Meet Reef Healey, owner of ReefBarbers and a successful barber. Read his story and discover why he recommends Booksy to other barbers.
I started off barbering in 2013 straight from school when I was 16 in a small barbers on the outskirts of Huddersfield. Also attending college 1 day a week, with not much training on offer in the barbershop I took it into my own hands to teach myself barbering in my mates kitchens after I finished work.
Around 2 months later, my boss noticed that I was cutting more and more hair and that I was picking things up quickly. He entered me into the NHF competitions were I went on to be awarded 18 top 3 Finishes, including being crowned NHF Britains Best Junior Mens Barber in 2015 and the youngest to win NHF Junior Mens Welsh Champion in 2015.
It just went strength to strength, got busier and busier in the shop but wasn’t going any further within the barbering industry which I strive to do. So I moved on from there and ended up meeting the RUGER boys - Alan and Reece Beak, at a GBBB workshop in Sunderland. Alan really took me under his wing and guided me while I was working in a barbershop in Holmfirth, which I now own.
It is called ReefBarbers. Since I’ve opened it, the most important step was changing from walk-ins to bookings. I looked into Booksy and it honestly made the transition from walk-ins to appointments so easy. I haven’t had to look back since.
The most important thing I would recommend to somebody coming into the industry is grab it by the balls and run with it. Be your own individual; you can never learn enough, set yourself goals and strive for them.
